Wimpie Westcott began his tenure in the banking industry in 1986 with the United Building Society, to become the future ABSA, as a Portfolio Manager. After 10 years Wimpie entered into a partnership with 4 others and utilised their expertise to sell Samsung PBX’s, buying directly from Samsung SA at the time.
After buying out his partners, Wimpie brought an ex Telkom technical individual into his business as a partner. They traded under the name Crucial Trace 39 (Pty) Ltd, continuing with their sales of Samsung. In 2004 Wimpie and his partner became platinum dealers, supplying all the technical backup and stock to Samsmart. They had their own selling arm and secured Flight Centre SA as their flagship client. Wimpie sold his stake in the business to his partner in 2006.
Costcutterz was established in 2007 by Wimpie and Mark Ritchie. In 2013 the company was rebranded as Activate Telecoms. Initially they concentrated on a LCR model but when David Lipton joined they started doing IP telephony, which today forms a strong part of their business.
